Achievement Hunting: A Guide to Completing Steam Achievements

What is achievement hunting, which games are best suited to 100% completion, and how do you tackle the hardest achievements? A complete starter guide.

What is achievement hunting?

Achievement hunting is a playstyle focused on unlocking every achievement in a game. For some players it's a way to explore a game more deeply; for others it's an independent goal and a collecting hobby in its own right. Steam's profile showcase and rare-achievement badges make this playstyle visible and measurable.

SteamPersona's achievement analyzer calculates your completion rate and an achievement "challenge score" to show how deep you go in each game giving an objective picture of the achievement-hunter side of your profile.

Which games should you start with?

If you're new to achievement hunting, games with linear progression and little reliance on randomness (RNG) make the easiest 100% targets, since your progress stays entirely in your own hands. Multiplayer or competitive achievements (like reaching a specific rank) tend to take the longest, so it makes sense to save those for last.

"Rare" achievements with a low global completion percentage are usually hidden or time-consuming tasks; finishing a game's main content before chasing those avoids unnecessary replays.
